The New Great Time Suck

A few weeks ago, J-Dub and Kiki and the gang conspired to give me another way to while away the hours.

A drop spindle and fiber.

Lucy (LG Lucy, not dog Lucy) decorated it. The side says "Pam's Spindle" and the top has a monkey!. Yay monkey! (ok, it's a chimpanzee, but monkey is funnier).

This is my first yarn, spun and plied.

The blue stuff in the top picture is my second attempt, using a mishmosh of fiber left over from Stella. It didn't work as well, but it gives great new meaning to the phrase "thick and thin".

The red on the spindle currently is what I'm considering my first "real" attempt and as such, it's going slower and hopefully more evenly.

I've also finished a shawl. It's not high fashion but it's going to be nice and toasty come winter.

Yarn - Joann's Sensations Rainbow Boucle. I have about a quarter of the skein left I think.
Hook - L
Pattern - Double crochet in 3/4ths of a circle. Go until you get bored.

A few books.

58. The Dress Lodger - Sheri Holman. I really enjoyed this one even though I apparently didn't realize the doctor was supposed to be considered a villain. Maybe I should have read the Reader's Guide first...

59. The Beekeeper's Apprentice - Laurie R. King. Sherlock Holmes takes a protege, Mary Russell. I love these books but I haven't read all of them yet. That will soon be remedied.

There's a lot more I want to blog about but I'm having trouble getting motivated. Topics include:
the start of fall semester
my ever-lowering thyroid dose
why I'm so tired
are the last two related or is it all in my head
the 0B0S internship
where all the good men are
the many projects I have started in the last few weeks
and how the dog has grown an extra canine's worth of fur in a month and why she feels the need to leave it scattered around the house.

Thanks Jess and Kiki and girls. I'm going to sign off and go spin now.

One more thing!
Becky, if you read this, I'd love to help you with the flowers but I don't have an email address for you. Send me one at hiphipcrochet at yahoo dot com.

Hahahaha! You WILL be sucked in to the vortex. You will!

And you might even get some spinning treats in the mail. One never knows. :)

That shawl looks freakin' awesome!!! And it WILL get cold this winter. How else will I wear all of this wool? I guess that you can leave it here to wear while sitting under the freezer. Oh, and CuteDavid says, "It's not a monkey, it's an ape". I am thinking of making him a sweater that says just that. Out of wool. What do you think? Or, remember those tuxedo t-shirts? How hard would it be to make a sweater with "faux overalls" on them? Missed you this weekend (can you tell?).
Love,
kiki

I think the yarn looks great, especially for a first attempt. Mine... mine looks less great. You'll notice I haven't posted a pic of it! LOL

Your yarn looks great, and I'm looking forward to hearing about the other topics, especially "where have all the good men gone?"
